| This happened when I was about 15-16 years old. I've lived in the same house all of my life. The house is now over 50 years old; I do not know the previous owners or any verifiable history on the land. Before my experience with "The Dark Man", as I call 'him', there were other minor disturbances in the house that had happened to me ever since I was approximately 9-10, but nothing like this. So minor, in fact, that I didn't think much about them.
The first time this happened (there were like 3-4 episodes altogether, over a period of time), I was alseep in my bed for the night, with my bedroom door halfway open. I remember a certain dream (which was a totally unrelated & strange dream) that I was having just prior to this experience, and I would always dream this particular dream before one of these incidents. For whatever reason, I started to have a strong sense that I should wake up, it felt very pressing. I awoke from the dream (and I am absolutely positive I was awake!) to find a large, dark silhouette of what I sensed to be male, in my bedroom doorway (there was a bit of light from the hallway which made the silhouette very clear to see)! There was no detail of a face, clothing, nothing - just pure blackness.
Before I knew it, this black silhouette was gliding from the bedroom doorway to right by my bed where my head lay (approx. 10 feet in distance) and once it got to the bedside, appeared to bend over slightly, as if to get a better look at me. His 'face' ended up about 2 feet (or closer) from my face. I felt *absolute* panic, but I found myself completely paralized; I couldn't move at all! The only thing I could move were my eyes and I was completely unable to scream (from the time I layed eyes on 'him' til the encounter was overwith). I mean, I was trying to scream at the top of my lungs for the longest time, it seemed, but no noise was heard... the scream wouldn't come out!
Since I was unable to scream or move, I could think of nothing else to do except close & open my eyes a couple times in hopes it would go away. Nope. It was always there when I opened them again. It seemed like an eternity before this incident was overwith. This 'Dark Man' never made any noise (or any unusual odors that I can remember). It's been so long, I don't remember exactly how it ended, except that it was just over... he was gone and I could move again.... but my heart was racing and I was still terrified. I think I ended up going back to sleep, oddly enough.
In the episodes that followed, it would always start out the same... with me dreaming that same dream, and (although it sounds impossible) I can remember just knowing what was coming and trying to force myself 'to get out of the dream', but I couldn't and the same scenario would follow.
These episodes are often referred to as Sleep Paralysis, but after having gone through it, I have to wonder if there isn't something more to it!
