| Here's the background....
This house was built in the late 1800's, and originally our apartment was the front main parlour living room. The land it is on, however, is another story... Halfiax was the major port for Britain in North America for well over a century before that. There are fortifications not far from here from the American Revolution, and the War of 1812. This area is also known as both privateer territory and Traditional Mik'Maq' territory dating back to the 1600's. In 1917, a muinitions ship hit another one and caused a gigantic explosion, which wiped out half of the city and caused 2000 or so deaths. Now, back to the house. It survived the explosion, but everything across the street was basically wiped out. Later in life, the house became a spot where some British army personell visited for ummm... bawdy-like affairs with ladies of the night. This continued through WWII, and by the 70's, it had become a crack house. When we moved in, it was renovated (having been cleared of its crackhouse persona). We went down during the renovations, and saw that underneath all the old 1970's tounge-in-groove wall panelling was a plaster wall that was being taken down, and the chimney flue cover (a tin plate) dating back to the late 1800's. The whole mess was torn down right to its structural beams and drywalled, and the floor (which when we rented the apt had 3 layers of skanky carpeting) was now paintex a really ugly battleship grey. (Now who would paint a perfectly good oak hardwood floor grey!???!?!?) Recently I have sanded off the ugly grey in the living room, and re-done the entire floor by hand. I figured it deserved that extra care. Anyhow, this spot appeared there the whole time I was renovating the floor. It would not sand off. One day it actually eminated green ecto. When I was finished with the floor, the spot disappeared. I still have no idea what that is about. Other people in the building have also seen some strange things. The girl next door moved her bed to the other side of the room because she swore someone was watching her through the window. My roomate has seen a man in 1700's clothing standing in our kitchen more than once, and several in the building have seen a little girl standing by the stairs or heard things around the building. The back of the house has a lot of strange energy around it as well, and the basement is just packed with it. Now, one must know that in my bedroom, there is a hole about 4"X4" left over from something they were doing during renovation and forgot to patch. I think occassionally things from the basement may come up into the bedroom. I have since covered the hole with cedar and not had a problem. So that's the story of the house in a nutshell...more on it as I research. TF |
