Witchy Finger Cookies
Submitted by: Carrie
This is a really cute Halloween recipe I came across last year. I made them for my boys (ages 35 and 4) and they were a big hit. They actually look like gnarled fingers, quite realistic! Anyway, if you have kids, or you're just a kid at heart, these are a must have treat for Halloween.
1 cup unsalted butter
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1 3/4 cups all purpose flour
1 cup pecan chips
slivered almonds
food coloring (red or green)
Preheat oven to 350. Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and salt. Add flour a little at a time, blending after each addition. Stir in pecans. Dough will be heavy.
Using about 1 heaping tablespoonful per cookie, shape dough into "fingers" about 3 inches long.
Place cookies on sprayed cookie sheet. Using a knife, lightly score the "fingers" a few times across the center and near the top to resemble knuckles. With a small, new paintbrush, paint almonds with food coloring and press into the top of the cookie to resemble a fingernail.
Bake for 25 minutes or until lightly brown.
These actually taste pretty good, similar to a pecan sandy. Have fun!
Spider Cookies

Here is my kids simple spider cookie recipe for Halloween or actually anytime. They love designing them and munching on all the goodies while they are creating their masterpiece.
Oreo cookies
Thin black or brown licorice sticks (cut short for legs)
Red hot candies
Vanilla or chocolate frosting
Take an Oreo cookie and stick 8 pieces of licorice into the creme filling (4 on each side) for the legs. Then use the vanilla or chocolate frosting to stick two redhot candies on top for the eyes. Use your imagination to create even more cool spider cookies with whatever supplies you have in the house. My daughter once took a small piece of red fruit roll-up, cut it into the shape of an hourglass and pasted it near the back of the cookie to make a black widow spider. She named him Horace.
This is also a great surprise afterschool snack mom! Have fun and enjoy!
Quick Apple Spice Cake (for the microwave)
This is a very quick cake recipe for those who don't have enough time to really cook.
1 spice cake mix
1 small package of vanilla pudding
1 can apple pie filling
2 eggs
1 1/2 cup milk
1 container of caramel apple dip (optional)
You will also need a microwave safe pan or bundt type pan.
Mix all of the ingredients together except for the dip, they do not have to be mixed until the mix is smooth. Pour into your pan and cook on 70% for 16 - 18 minutes or until done (dry on top and pulling away from the sides). Let it cool slightly and pour the caramel apple dip over the top. Voila!!
Samhain Punch
This is a favorite recipe handed down through an old family line. It is said to be a very powerful aphrodisiac. :^)
3 oranges
whole cloves
6 roses (make certain roses weren't sprayed w/ insecticide!)
3 apples (MacIntosh)
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
3 cinnamon sticks
3 tsp cinnamon
3 tsp nutmeg
3 tsp allspice
3 tsp red pepper
2 bottles sweet red wine (Lambrusco or Cafe Zinfandel)
1 bottle Champagne (Asti)
Ice cubes
Pre-heat oven to 375.
Stud the oranges with cloves, bake for 20 minutes.
While oranges are baking, combine the rose petals from 4 roses and the water in a pot, bring to a boil and simmer on medium/low heat until the petals become translucent. Remove the petals and put the rose water into punch bowl.
Cut up apples and oranges (leaving skin on) into quarters and put into punch bowl. Add cinnamon sticks to punch bowl.
In another pot, combine one bottle of the red wine, sugar, cinnamon, allspice, red pepper. Bring to boil, stirring occasionally until sugar is dissolved. Add mixture to punch bowl.
Add second bottle of red wine.
Then, right before serving add champagne and ice.
Garnish with the rose petals from the last 2 roses.
Curl up with your honey on the couch, and enjoy!
